Official Black-screen thread - We need your help!

Hello Graphics Communities!

For a very long time now we've been trying to track down, diagnose, and correct an issue that seems to be happening all across the board with Intel® Graphics.  Users, for various reasons - seem to have issues with OEM systems (and Intel® NUC's) losing their display for different events.

  • Installing new drivers
  • Rebooting
  • Computers idling, going into sleep or hibernation
  • Other random events

We have run into a stumbling block in fixing this issue, and that is that we are unable to reproduce the symptoms above.  We have ordered exact-matching systems, displays and cables - and matched our configurations to those of the users having problems, and we are completely unable to reproduce the problem.  The issue is complex, but in this particular case - it stems from the fact that two users with the same configuration are not guaranteed to have the problem, it varies from user to user, system to system, display to display.

What we at Intel® are asking now though is 2-fold.  If you are one of these users (or a business) experiencing a consistent black-screening issue as mentioned above, we would like to procure your COMPLETE system configuration.  This means, we want you to ship us (at our expense) - the System (desktop or laptop), display (TV, monitor) AND the cable (hdmi, dp, dvi, vga) used by your system when it starts to have a blackscreen failure.  If you are willing to do this, you should be aware that we will keep your system for an extended period, and will compensate you by replacing your setup.

NOW!  Even if you are not willing to send us your system, and would just like to inform us that you have a black-screen issue.  That is okay too. Even if you have already submitted this info in some of our other black-screen threads, feel free to submit it here too.  Please submit the following information into this thread so that we can continue to document all possible instances of it.  Just copy and paste the below list and put in relevant information (completely!).  *NOTE* If you have not already done so, please update your BIOS and Display Driver to the latest version available.  We cannot accept a report of a failing configuration that is not up to date.  Additionally, if you are running your display through a 3rd party device such as a projector or an AV/R (receiver), you need to show that the problem still occurs without the extra device connected (a direct connection from system to display is required).

Are you willing to send your system to us? (Yes/No)
Is your system a laptop or desktop?
If desktop, is it custom built, or manufactured?
If desktop, what is the make/model of your motherboard?
What is the make/model of your system? (COMPLETE model name required)
What is the model of your CPU?
What is the make/model of your failing display(s)?
If laptop, is your built-in display failing? (Yes/No)
What is your operating system?
Is it a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system?
What display driver version do you have installed?
What type of connection are you using? (HDMI, VGA, DP, DVI?)
What happens that results in the blackscreen failure?

Any/all information is valuable.

Thank you for your information & cooperation!

Forced 1080i in some DX11 games is causing screen flicker.

$

Hey Folks,

When loading DX11 games in full-screen at 1920x1080, the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel sometimes forcefully changes the video output to 60i Hz from 60p Hz. As a result, it causes horrible screen flicker. Changing the game to run in windowed mode returns it to 60p Hz and removes the flicker, as does changing the resolution from 1920x1080 to something else. This is only noticeable on the SECOND screen, which is a plug 'n play standard 1080p monitor.

PC Specification:

Graphics: GTX 880m (running driver 337.50 beta - no alternative version available yet) & Intel HD 4600 integrated (running latest drivers).

CPU: Intel i7 4910MQ 2.90 GHz.

RAM: 16GB DDR3.

2nd Monitor: 24" 1080p LED screen operating at 60Hz connected via DisplayPort -> HDMI (though HDMI -> HDMI makes no difference).

OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1.

Why would the Intel drivers be automatically forcing my resolution to 1080 interlaced when the monitor can (and does) support 1080 progressive in every other context?

Thanks.

Laptop with Intel HD 4600: screen blinking dark sometimes

$

Hi there.

I just started using a MSI GE40 laptop with intel HD 4600 and a NVIDIA graphics (in optimus mode I believe).

There is an annoying bug that the screen every now and then blinks dark (I guess it's a single black frame, but have no way to verify it). The blinking is of low intensity (i'd say maybe a few times a minute at most) and correlates with on-screen activities. When I do nothing and the screen does not change, this seems not to happen.

All the relevant drivers are the latest: intel iGFX is 10.18.10.3907, NVIDIA card is 9.8.13.4411. I had this with .3496 for intel and .332.35 NV as well. I tried disabling the optimus either way (so that either card is the only active) - didn't go away. I tried disabling the devices in device managed, one at a time, same result.

What seems to have helped is to disable "Automatyczne odswiezanie panelu" in "Zasilanie" under "Zasilanie z baterii" through "Panel strowniczy grafiki HD Intel(r)" (an app). I do not feel like misguiding you by providing possibly incorrect translation, sorry for that.

BTW MSI provides a BIOS UEFI update that has a description of "fix panel that have PSR function happen flash sometimes under DC mode", but I am unwilling to verify what it means if the outcome of applying it erroneously could be "(...) Failure to abide may result in bricking your system."

Best regards

check out this screenshot.  http://i.imgur.com/t4vBTn0.png    I am convinced i'm downloading the correct driver.  Please help.  The auto-detect in Windows fails, actually fails with multiple if not all Intel devices.  The Intel auto-detect and install does detect, but the install fails, says the driver has been moved and use the Intel Download Center, which is where I found the driver.

Asus g - something something, win 8 not 8.1, intel i3, 4gb ram, etc... Anyways... So I bought this laptop like a year ago and well it worked fine i could play stuff like bf3, cod, samp with mods, etc. But the thing dat changed and i mean CHANGED was my fps bcs one day I wanted to play a bit of COD and I noticed my fps was soooo low ( at that time i thought i was lagging bcs i usually lag ). So I researched that problem and many people told me it was the dust in my fan and I belived it but I didnt want to touch anything inside bcs im kind of a retarded as far as the pc stuff goes. So I reaserched it more and i went to win. update to update my drivers and stuff and i dunno how but it actually worked. So I was pretty happy, but then like a month passed and dat happend again and i was like no biggy, ima just update my drivers and everything's gonna be fine, BUT NO lol. So I was like relly woried so I went to a store dat I bought it from and well it was in their shop for about like 2 and a half weeks i think. So I thought they gotto solve that problem, BUT NO ! They didn't. And I reshearched it more, and moreeeee and I found out dat many people have this problem and I thought it was pretty weird bcs the dudes at the shop fixed like my motherboard but that didnt fix the actual problem ( i didnt even know my motherborad was broken lol ).So I found out dat I gotto update my drivers, now I dunno how this helped ( it barely helped but help is still a help ), but i update my graphics driver and it got my fps up by 5 but i was still sad bcs on samp i almost had no mods no enb's and my fps was low . So one day I was in my control panel and I found out I dont have any updates for this 3d video controler, but I didnt know what dat is. So here we are, i seached the whole internet, found barely some help. I JUST WANT TO PLAY SAMP IN A NORMAL ******* WAYYYY ITS A GAME FROM 2005 FOR GOD SAKES LOL

I have a new pc that i built with an i7 4770k processor, gygabyte b85 motherboard, 16g ram and an nvidia gtx 780 gpu Windows 7 64 bit svr pkg 1.  The pc loaded and works great until i plug in the second monitor which is a new samsung 4k tv.  When i plug in the hdmi which is in the tvs pc hdmi port to the gpu the screen goes black  on the primary monitor and shows no signal to the 4k tv, and the primary will not come back on.  A reboot with both hooked up shows up on both screens as the bios flashes by then the starting windows screen and then again both monitors go black and display no signal.  A boot up in safe mode allows both to run.  I have on the advice of nvidia uninstalled the video drivers and did a clean install,  no change.  I have tried many configurations of cables  hdmi  display port and dvi but cannot get the pc to push to the 4k tv.  It will push to an older 1080 p plasma,   the date on the bios is april 2014 and these 4k tvs are newer than that.  So before i attempt to reflash the bios i was hoping for some insight from here. thanks for any help   david

Dell Precision M3800 - HDMI output resolution 2560x1440 (Intel HD 4600)

$

Hi all,

I have a Dell Precision M3800 which i have connected to two DGM IPS-2701WPH LCD Monitors (native 2560x1440 60Hz). The Dell provides two video output ports 1 x mini DisplayPort and 1 x HDMI.

Both monitors will display out the native resolution while being powered off the MiniDP port. However from the HDMI port the laptop will only display to 1920x1080 and nothing higher.

Using a Apple MacBook Pro the monitors work fine using HDMI at the full 2560x1440 resolution. so i know it isnt a problem with the monitor end.

Things i have tried,

  1. customapp mapping a resolution to 2560x1440 at 30Hz = black screen, and anything higher (refresh rate) - i get a dialog box stating - The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity.
  2. updated to the latest Dell video driver
  3. manually installed the latest Intel Video Driver

None of these have resolved the issue. below is a copy of the Intel video report, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced

This is a fresh install from DVD. I installed Windows 8.1 Pro and on boot up right past the logo screen I get the black screen the system just seem to stop loading after that. I hit the power button and the press it again and it loads all the way to desktop. I uninstall the HD Graphic 3000 driver and it works perfect. The Microsoft basic display adapter driver has no display or resolution settings. I have downloaded 5 drivers from the Toshiba website with no luck in fixing the problem. Can you point me in the right direction for the driver? Toshiba Satellite L775 S7352 Intel graphics 3000. All updates from Microsoft installed along with chip set, display etc.

HD 4400 flickering problem

$

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a very annoying problem and several others like me in an italian forum.

It's an issue related to the Intel HD 4400 graphic card.

I have received a few days ago a brand new Dell Inspiron laptop (7537) which has two graphic cards: an integrated Intel and a dedicated nVidia GT 750 2GB DDR5.

Once the laptop is not plugged in the monitor (Full HD Samsung SDC4C48 touch-screen led IPS display) is flickering.

The operative system is Windows 8.1 PRO X64 Update 1 just formatted and updated to the latest release; the Intel driver is the last one downloadable on your download center (15.36.3.64.3907).

I tried previous driver versions (and the one downloadable on the Dell website) but the problem is always there and it's probably related to how the software manage the power consumption once the power cord is unplugged.

Unfortunately it's a common problem.

Get a look here (that's not me and it's a different Inspiron laptop with te same graphic card):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT-on8vJekQ

I have already deactivated the adaptive lighting and setted Windows 8.1 to "maximum performance" but it didn't work.

I went to Control Panel --> Devices Management and I disabled the Intel HD card: the problem disappeared but the nVidia control panel (latest WHQL nVidia Geforce 344.11 driver installed) stopped working too.

I then re-enabled the HD4400 graphic card and I unistalled the Intel driver letting Windows to install the generic Microsoft 6.3.9600.16384 onedated 21.06.2006 and I fixed it but... withouth the Intel driver I cannot modify brightness, contrast, color saturation etc. anymore.

I haven't found a solution to fix this problem so far and inside the Bios there is no setting to disable your graphic card.

Intel HD 4600 and Outlook 2013 - white screen

We have a number of Dell 9020 which have the Intel HD 4600 drivers installed and we are seeing graphic rendering issues when using Outlook 2013. The rendering can be at any time - from reading an email to opening a meeting invite. What I mean by rendering is that the inbox emails and calendar all goes white and you cannot resolve. You have to closed down Outlook and reopen the app.

Many Microsoft forum's have pinpointed a graphics driver issue even though we have updated to the latest drivers already. We even disabled hardware accelaration from with Office 2013 and added a registry key to force this ut see the same issue.

Please can someone help as this is effecting us dramtically and daily. !

Hello,

I always installed the DELL Intel Graphics driver that is in their site which is version 10.18.10.3277 but that driver was released in 2013 and I always noticed it causing the laptop to hang after Windows 8.1 shuts down if the IDM (Internet Download Manager shuts Windows while the display is turned off) even though, the laptop hangs and doesn't power off, power button keeps lit and fan keeps spinning and when I installed the latest Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver which is version 10.18.10.3621, I noticed this issue doesn't happen. So were you aware of that issue and you fixed it with the latest Intel driver?

The issue is when a download manager turn off the laptop after completing downloads, so when it turns off the laptop while the display is turned off, sometimes the laptop hang and doesn't power off.

I tested this issue with the latest Intel graphics driver but it didn't happen so far.

I have some few questions?

Did you really know about this issue and you fixed it in the updated driver or am I just guessing an it may be a random issue? But I made sure that it is not random because every time I install the old Intel driver, when I test the issue with IDM, it occurs after about 7-12 shut downs and sometimes in the first shut down. But when I install the new driver, I tested this with about 20 shut downs and it didn't occur.

My second question, Is this latest driver harmful to my system? Does the Intel graphics driver have to do with the battery life?

Thanks.
