Intel HD 4400 DirectX 11 scaling issues

$

Hello,

First of I want to notice that I'm aware that there are a lot of threads on this particular subject, both on intel's and other forums. But I thought it would be a good idea to put all the information I've gathered in the past few days in one thread.

So let's start with the description of my problem. As the title says it's a scaling issue, whenever I change the resolution of a game to non-native I just get a centered screen with black borders around it. This happens with the HD 4400 chip in combination with the Nvidia GT 730M running on windows 8.1. And ofcourse all the drivers are up to date.

Now I have found out myself that this problem is related to DirectX 11, for this only happens in applications that use that version of DirectX. The best example for this is crysis 2, I changed my resolution to 1280 by 720 and boom there were the familiar black borders. But when I disable the use of DirectX 11 in the graphics option of crysis 2 it suddenly scales properly.

But this problem only occurs when running the desktop in native resolution (1920 by 1080). When I change the resolution to ANY other one, I suddenly get more display scaling options available in the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, I can now choose "Scale Full Screen". When running the desktop at a lower resolution with that scaling option, I can run DirectX 11 games in any resolution and they will scale just fine!

For some people this works as a fix though:

1) change display resolution to below-native, 1024 by 768 for instance

2)choose "Scale Full Screen" and save

3)change display resolution back to native

4)profit

But sadly for me this doesn't work, the intel settings just go back to "Maintain Display Scaling" and my games still have black borders around the edges.

So right now the fix is change desktop resolution for gaming or disable DirectX 11 when possible. I hope that the intel team can figure something out for their next drivers or that there are people on this forum that know an actual good fix. The only thing that I haven't tried yet is to install older drivers and see if those work or to disable the intel hd 4400 chip (which isn't a very good idea I believe)

How to get Full Range RGB from Intel HD Graphics?

$

Has anyone found the trick to get Intel HD Graphics 3000 (on a SandyBridge 2500K) to output full range RGB to a full range capable digital television?

With my TV, it is impossible to get the iGPU to output Full range RGB. Both "Full" and "Limited" settings look the same, flat washed out. I tried connecting both directly to the TV and via the my Onkyo TX-SR605.

Then I went back to my ATI card, changed it from Full to Limited RGB, and the colors there now looked just as flat and washed out as the iGPU always outputs. My TV is a Samsung DLP 50A650.

I have also tried the various tricks found in this thread on avsforum, incl. downgrading to driver version 2509, but nothing works.

It is strange Intel can't fix such a serious quality problem, which ATI, NVIDIA, Sony(PS3) and Microsoft(Xbox360) all nailed down years ago (by providing a working Full range option). I have had to use a discrete ATI card to get decent colors, while the otherwise high quality Intel GPU should be perfectly capable of providing this.

Corruption in XBMC

There seems to be some kind of graphical corruption in XBMC with the new drivers ... icons/logos get corrupted in the interface and there are some other minor corruptions in lists (will upload images later when i get home).

I'm running the latest 64-bit drivers on two different systems both with an i3 (HD 4000) and both experience the same problem.

Operating system used is win 8 (one PRO and the other "vanilla" win 8). System 1 is runnig XBMC 12 and the other XBMC 12.1 and both are runnig the "Aeon Nox" skin .. same corruption in both.

Can someone else please confirm this issue.

Poor Video Quality Compared to old Nvidia ION Card

Hi,

I recently bought an Intel NUC D34010WYK to replace my old Asrock ION Atom 330-HT HTPC. Most of the time i use my HTPC to watch Live and recorded TV through Windows Media Center in Windows 8.1 Pro. I have run Media Center with excellent picture quality for 5 years on my ION based system.

But when I compare the picture quality in Media Center on my new NUC to my old ION based HTPC I see a huge Video quality drop. There is much more noise and pixelation on the nuc. When watching movies with fog and mist you can clearly see more noise on the nuc compared to the Asrock. When I watch SD interlaced channels I can see the interlace stripes on my NUC, but not on my Asrock. Its like deinterlacing is not working as it should.

As you know WMC is built upon Windows Media Foundation, and totally relies on the DXVA2/DXVAHD implementation. So there is no codec tweak I can do. And on my Asrock it's woking Awesome out of the box. The picture is generally more smooth and with less noise on the Asrock compared to the NUC. I guess the quality difference between the 2 hardware setup is due to different implementation of video upscaling method and deinterlace method since all post processing settings on TV and on both HTPCs (Nvidia PureVideo compared to Intel ICV HD) are turned off.

I have tested all Video post processing settings in Intel control panel including noice filters, but it always end up with that the quality looks best with "let program decide"

The video broadcast video standard where i live in Sweden is:

720p50 or 720p25 or 576i50 or 576p25

H.264/AVC/MPEG-4 Part 10 with Variable BitRate (VBR) between 4 and 16 Mbit/s

Both my HTPCs runs on a Clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 With Media Center. When I did the comparsion test i played the same recorded TV file and both system hooked up to the same LG TV running at 1080p@50hz.

My question is:

Does Windows Media Foundation (Used by WMC, WMP, Win8-Apps, Silverlight etc) utilize the best scaling and deinterlacing methods from ICV HD?

If not - How can I configure my NUC to do so!?

At this point I'm really disappointed about the video playback quality...

Here is 2 screen dumps from the same video played in WMP on my both systems. Note the difference of the pxielation on the left mans costume and face especially, much smother on the ION system. I can upload more screen dumps if wanted to do more comparsion. I also attached my NUCS DxDiag

HD4000 Dual screen issue

I have two DVI/VGA displays, one is running from the DVI port on my mobo and the other is using a HDMI to DVI adapter.

After a small amount of time the right display (HDMI to DVI) starts to discolor. After swapping display it happened to the other display as well so I tried the VGA port on my mobo but the right monitor still discolors. Any idea what could cause this? I understand it may not be my IGPU but it is strange that it is always the right display.

Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered

Hi. I know this question has been asked many times, but many are unanswered. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Window 7 64 bit. Just yesterday, my laptop kept blacking out, freezes and then unfreeze and this message would pop up saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It keeps happening around every 15-30 minutes. Sometimes, it totally blacks out. Other times, it unfreeze but the windows are blank. Someone please help me. The display adapter I have is Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Some people said online to update it and that might fix the problem. I went to the Intel website and updated the lastest one given, but the problem is still here. I've restored my laptop to a certain restore point, but still did not solve the problem. Suggestions and ideas? Thank you a head of time.

Windows 8.1 driver issues

Hi, as the title suggests I'm having some problems with windows 8.1, only when playing games, at the beginning I had some low on memory warnings then few days ago a bsod related to igdkmd64.sys after 10 mins of playing, never had all these issues with win 8

my computer is a clevo laptop, 780m nvidia and intel 4600 as display adapters, I have the latest drivers for both (10.18.10.3316 for the 4600)

I update win 8 using windows store but I never had the code 31 or 43 issues

basically I'm having almost the same problems:

Optimus V 17.3" Windows 8.1 BSOD igdkmd64.sys

really, it can't be a coincidence.....

I try to install old 4600 drivers but that doesn't work, I also try the latest drivers available from clevo, no luck

In my opinion there are clearly some issues between intel drivers and any other 3rd graphic cards (amd or nvidia)

Also I have two doubt in my mind:

1 older graphics drivers for windows 8 can safelly be used with win 8.1 ??

2 when you install or reinstall intel drivers on a notebook is better to also install the drivers for the dgpu at the (almost) same time, even if you already had the latest drivers for the dgpu, or you can install only intel drivers with no problems ??

p.s. I'm from italy so I'm sorry for my mistakes

Will Intel made a driver that works under Windows 8 for Intel GMA 3600?

Dear Intel Community,

I have a netbook with Intel Atom N2600 processor, which has Intel GMA 3600.  Under the Metro screen in Windows 8, if I try opening an app, Windows 8 crashes.  I get VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE and Kernel Mode Display driver problem (igdkmd32.sys).

I'm running an external monitor.  I use the generic Microsoft display adapter and everything works, but my video resolution is not right. (1600 x 1200 instead of 1920 x 1080)  It's stretched.

This is a known issue.  My netbook should run Windows 8 under Intel GMA 3600 with the last published driver.  However it doesn't.  And if I wanted to use just the Netbook alone it's resolution is 1024 x 600 so I can't use Metro.  Unless of course I trick it into displaying 1024 x 768 mode, then it works, but it looks all stretched LOL.

Is Intel going to put out a driver for Intel GMA 3600 that works properly for Windows 8?  I am dying to know!

(Supposedly from reading virtually every thread on this from forums across the Web, there are tablets with this GMA that won't run Windows 8 even though they were advertised as doing so.)

Please let me know if you have any answer to this question!  Thanks.  Cheers!

Intel HD 4000 HDMI - No Signal problem

$

Hello,

First of all, my configuration is:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H

CPU: Intel i7 3770K

RAM: 2x4GB Kingston XMP Predator

GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 670

OS: Windows 8 Pro x64

I connect my 24" monitor to my external GPU via HDMI to HDMI and my Samsung TV to internal Intel HD4000 Graphics via HDMI to HDMI and for more than half year there was no problem and everything was great.

For over a month to the TV it shows "No signal" but the PC recognize the TV and it says that there is no problem. Still there is no picture to the TV.

The problem occurred suddenly without any installation of new software, drivers etc. First I thought it may be from the cable, but when I plug it to the external GPU the TV works. Then I find out that there is an issue with sleeping and wake up to the PC but I disable/enable the device and still no luck. I installed the newest drivers from the Intel web site with no luck at all. Now I installed again the older VGA drivers from Gigabyte site and still have this issue.

Please help because I am out of any ideas.

The bottom line:

PC recognize the TV, “No signal” displayed on TV, TV works when plugged on external GPU HDMI port.

PS: Recently I bought a DP to HDMI cable and the HD4000 don’t recognize it. It is connected to the TV through that cable but the TV works and have a signal when it is connected to the DP port of the external GPU.

I attached links to the DXDiag and the Intel control panel report in the .txt files based on last known working configuration (Monitor to external GPU HDMI-HDMI), TV to internal Intel HD4000 (HDMI-HDMI).

The last I’ve try is DVI to HDMI and there is a signal from HD4000 to TV. What would be the probable reason for stopped working HDMI port (except the cable – tried with 3 different cables) and not working DP port with DP to HDMI cable?

Dithering on iGPUs

$

Hi everybody,

Yesterday I got myself a new laptop with Core i7 / nVidia GT630M combo. Before this I had Core i5 / ATi 5850HD combo. First thing I noticed were the almost transparent vertical lines on the screen - I've seen them before on my old laptop when Intel iGPU was selected in Hybrid graphics settings. Selecting ATi card resulted in perfectly normal output picture. So I tried to force nVidia GPU and apparently you cannot do that with nVidia since even when the proper GPU kicks in the image is fed to the display by iGPU.

So I went on Google and after a few hours found the exact description of the problem: dithering issue with Intel's iGPUs: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=905151&page=3

It has been there since first iGPUs and Intel never seemed to care. But now that I cannot force a proper GPU in the settings I would like Intel to notice this really annoying issue and release a solution.

The page to test the picture: Black level - Lagom LCD test

It looks a lot like static dithering example from that page except for it is vertical and shows up every 5 pixels or so. I used to think it was a display issue or something wrong with my particular iGPU on the old laptop, but now I've got 2 laptops with iGPUs with release dates separated by 3 years and I'm pretty sure it's something with either Intel's drivers or the hardware design.

Connecting another external display to VGA slot does not result in any similar issues on it.

Tech details:

Old laptop with same issue: Acer Aspire 7745G, Core i5 450M + Radeon HD 5850, Win7 SP1 x64

New laptop same issue: Dell Inspiron 17R 5720, Core i7 3612QM + GeForce GT 630M, Win7 SP1 x64

Latest drivers in both cases, 8.15.10.2761 that is.

I will be happy to provide any further details and cooperation as long as this issue gets noticed by the devs.

Regards,

Georgi

HDMI port does not awaken from sleep mode

I am running a dual-monitor setup on Windows 8 with an Intel HD 2500 graphics card (driver 10.18.10.3379). I run one monitor out of the VGA port and the other from the HDMI port.

All is well until the computer goes to sleep or I shut down, at which point only the VGA port will awaken (regardless of which of the two monitors is connected to it). If, however, I pull the VGA plug from the computer before awakening, the HDMI-connected monitor will turn on, and then I can plug in the VGA plug and get the dual-setup working.

It seems that the HDMI port will not turn on unless the GPU sees there is no monitor connected through the VGA. If that is the issue, is there any way to "force" the HDMI to life?

Windows* 7/8/8.1 Driver (32 & 64 bit) Version 3345

$

Greetings everyone!

We have officially launched our latest driver supporting 3rd and 4th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD/Iris™ Graphics for Microsoft* Windows 7, 8, & 8.1.  The version is 3345 and is available at the following locations.

32-bit:  Download Center - Release notes here.

64-bit:  Download Center - Release notes here.

Also; Windows* 8/8.1 Graphics FAQ.

Please provide only constructive feedback here.  Harassing comments, needless insults and personal attacks are not permitted, and will be promptly deleted.

If there are issues that carried over from previous drivers that you are still experiencing, feel free to announce them again here.  However, we are all mostly aware of some of these, so I will list them here;

NEW: The driver reports that you have support for DX11.2.  This is incorrect, you have support for DX11.1.

CURRENT:

  • Users with 3rd party cards installed alongside Intel graphics are experiencing various degrees of Code 31 and Code 43 issues.  These are being actively investigated, and we are working with 3rd party vendors to resolve them.  The latest we are aware of is that AMD* drivers are force-unloading our drivers, resulting in various issues such as loss of multiple-displays, brightness controls, etc.
  • Users with only Intel graphics are experiencing various degrees of Code 31 and Code 43 issues.  These are being actively investigated, and we are working with Microsoft* to resolve them.
  • Users are having Display Audio failures either over an AV/R, or via a straight through connection to their audio enabled display.  For starters, you need to uninstall the 3316 or later driver from your system, and install the one we provide via the Intel Download Center links posted above.  When you receive a graphics driver automatically via Windows* Update, it does not include the Display Audio driver that is supposed to be packaged with it.  This can result in unstable audio errors.

if I have missed any, it is not because we are not aware of them!  However, please feel free to remind me of them regardless.

If you are having trouble with installing the driver, it can be for various reasons.  Most commonly, it is because your system currently has a driver that was installed by your OEM, and those drivers present various error messages to the effect of "this driver is not suitable for your computer because your OEM said so!".  If that is the case, you should follow the Manual Driver Installation instructions to install your driver (this is prefaced by downloading the .ZIP version of the driver from the links above).

I ask that you preface the feedback with aboldedheading so that it will be easier to identify, example: Control Panel: It would be cool if X was added.  BUG: This application is now crashing and it didn't with the last driver!

I also ask that you keep focused on this specific driver.  Any off-topic/off-driver/off-product comments will be promptly deleted!  If you have any issues with installing the driver, or are unable to get to the driver download pages linked above, please submit those comments in an original thread. Also, please do not message me directly about issues with the driver, keep them in this thread - I will check it daily.

Thank you for your feedback and contributions!

Maintaining 4x3 aspect ratio on 16x9 monitor - HELP!

$

0

To anyone who can help me,

I am the owner of a Toshiba Satellite laptop equipped with Intel graphics.

Until recently, whenever I opened a program designed to run on a standard 4x3 monitor, it would automatically letterbox on my 16x9 monitor, adding black bars on either side of the screen.  Whenever I exited the program, the aspect ratio would re-adjust and revert back to widescreen when it exited to my desktop.

A few days ago, my son was demonstrating some of the features of the function keys on the machine, and zoomed in as an experiment.  After exiting the zoom feature, the aspect ratios of my programs no longer readjust.  Now they stretch out horizontally to fill the widescreen monitor.

I have gone in to the intel graphics properties menu, and learned the hotkeys to manually adjust the display (stretch full screen, centre image, maintain aspect ratio) whenever I am in a program, but when I exit, the display does not revert back to widescreen as it used to, so I have to manually reset the resolution settings.

As my laptop used to automatically adjust these features, I wish to know the necessary steps to reset things the way they used to be.  I've figured out the manual way, but am not sure what else to do.

Any assistance would be most appreciated!

igdkmd64.sys DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD (Win 8.1 64), updating my driver?

$

0

The short problem:

In order to avoid the BSOD regarding "igdkmd64.sys" and what is displayed in the title, I attempted to update my Intel HD Graphics 4000  driver to the most recent update (10.18.10.3345). I did this yesterday, using a zip file. As a matter of fact, the overall procedure I used is described pretty well here. Many have claimed that this BSOD issue was solved by this update, and I was hoping for the same thing... Something odd happened a couple of minutes ago. My computer, without me putting any setting or function, essentially updated the graphics driver to the one I previously had, the one that is allegedly responsible for my BSODs. I didn't put any function, I was browsing the internet and all of a sudden I noticed the driver was updating/changing. Why is this happening and how can I stop it so that I can use the most recently updated driver?

The long problem:

My ASUS KC46 laptop was purchased in November of 2012. One of the first things I did was install the well known game "League of Legends," and I was able to use it pretty smoothly. This laptop had Windows 8.

I downloaded the windows 8.1 update in November of 2013. I'm not really good with computers, I was updating for the sake of updating it. Shortly after I updated it, upon playing games of League of Legends (and if I was using other software like google chrome or spotify whilst playing league), I began seeing messages regarding low memory. I never had gotten them before, and I assumed maybe League had a bad patch. But these messages didn't really go away.

The # of games changed, but eventually, I would get a BSOD that stated... well in short, everything in the title. I, again, am not much with computers. I was hoping an update would eventually come along. But it is now (nearly) the start of February. Last week I began to become frantic about trying to solve this issue. I started looking up other forums and it seemed I was not alone on this issue. Many people, often gamers, were experiencing the same BSOD issue.

I started seeing multiple forums in which people were claiming a couple of things.

- Nearly every forum stated there was an issue regarding Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers

- Multiple people claimed that updating these drivers was a solution, or working for them. Others at least claimed that it would be good to do so.

So I started looking to do that. Unfortunately (and I was not alone in this), my computer would not casually let me do this. A simple updating style would result in a message claiming the update was invalid (i can't remember for sure), or that my drivers were already to date. After searching for some tutorials, I finally found information on how to apply the recent update from a zip file...

So 4 days ago, I did this. I updated my driver to a recent update that was supposed to solve this BSoD issue.

Yesterday, something weird happened. To my disgust, whilst playing League of Legends, a BSoD occurred with the igdkmd64.sys error. I was confused and upset because I believed I updated my drivers and had no idea of an alternative solution rather than just waiting for a widespread update to solve this problem

Weird thing was, I used device manager to check my drivers... They were labelled as the previous driver I updated from. (10.18.10.3308). I had no idea how this happened or when it could have happened. I again updated my drivers to the recent updated version, hoping the problem would be solved once and for all.

Well I was using my computer casually today, browsing the internet, and then... without me putting any function or running device manager, my drivers updated. I could tell by the brief flash of my screen and brief irresponsiveness of applications. I quickly checked device manager... My driver, again, was labelled as the previous driver (3308), as if I never updated them yesterday.

I intend to try again tonight, especially because I want to play league tonight... but I'm am incredibly confused... why is my driver constantly switching back to its previous version despite my updates?

I am aware of a procedure involving me uninstalling my incompatible drivers (3308), then booting up my laptop in safe mode and updating to the recent version (3345). The only reason why I have yet do this is because... I am terrible with computers. I'm afraid of something going wrong in that process because I won't know how to fix it immediately (most likely) and I am not interested in spending money.

I really don't want these BSoDs to keep occurring.
