Official Black-screen thread - We need your help!

Hello Graphics Communities!

For a very long time now we've been trying to track down, diagnose, and correct an issue that seems to be happening all across the board with Intel® Graphics.  Users, for various reasons - seem to have issues with OEM systems (and Intel® NUC's) losing their display for different events.

  • Installing new drivers
  • Rebooting
  • Computers idling, going into sleep or hibernation
  • Other random events

We have run into a stumbling block in fixing this issue, and that is that we are unable to reproduce the symptoms above.  We have ordered exact-matching systems, displays and cables - and matched our configurations to those of the users having problems, and we are completely unable to reproduce the problem.  The issue is complex, but in this particular case - it stems from the fact that two users with the same configuration are not guaranteed to have the problem, it varies from user to user, system to system, display to display.

What we at Intel® are asking now though is 2-fold.  If you are one of these users (or a business) experiencing a consistent black-screening issue as mentioned above, we would like to procure your COMPLETE system configuration.  This means, we want you to ship us (at our expense) - the System (desktop or laptop), display (TV, monitor) AND the cable (hdmi, dp, dvi, vga) used by your system when it starts to have a blackscreen failure.  If you are willing to do this, you should be aware that we will keep your system for an extended period, and will compensate you by replacing your setup.

NOW!  Even if you are not willing to send us your system, and would just like to inform us that you have a black-screen issue.  That is okay too. Even if you have already submitted this info in some of our other black-screen threads, feel free to submit it here too.  Please submit the following information into this thread so that we can continue to document all possible instances of it.  Just copy and paste the below list and put in relevant information (completely!).  *NOTE* If you have not already done so, please update your BIOS and Display Driver to the latest version available.  We cannot accept a report of a failing configuration that is not up to date.  Additionally, if you are running your display through a 3rd party device such as a projector or an AV/R (receiver), you need to show that the problem still occurs without the extra device connected (a direct connection from system to display is required).

Are you willing to send your system to us? (Yes/No)
Is your system a laptop or desktop?
If desktop, is it custom built, or manufactured?
If desktop, what is the make/model of your motherboard?
What is the make/model of your system? (COMPLETE model name required)
What is the model of your CPU?
What is the make/model of your failing display(s)?
If laptop, is your built-in display failing? (Yes/No)
What is your operating system?
Is it a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system?
What display driver version do you have installed?
What type of connection are you using? (HDMI, VGA, DP, DVI?)
What happens that results in the blackscreen failure?

Any/all information is valuable.

Thank you for your information & cooperation!

HD 4000 Options don't support multiple monitors?

Hi Everyone,

I've been having a lot of trouble trying to get my laptop to display on my TV through HDMI. After taking a look at it from many different perspectives, I think the issue is the integrated graphics (HD 4000). On both the Window display options and the nvidia graphics options (my laptop also has a geforce GT 650M) I have the ability to support multiple monitors and these both pick up on my TV as another monitor. I can even extend the desktop through these methods and I can move my mouse far off the screen as if there was two monitors, but the TV still says 'no signal'. I've tried this with another monitor and there's also a 'no signal' message.

The thing is, when I look through the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, there is no option for adding another monitor. The 'Multiple Displays' tab only gives me the option of a single monitor display, and the 'Monitor / TV Settings' tab the only thing mentioned is "monitor/tv settings not supported". I've tried uploading the most recent drivers, but nothing changes. There's also no mention of multiple displays in the BIOS, and I've unlocked everything that might have been preventing that (at least as far as I know).

This is starting to drive me crazy; any help any of you can offer would be massively appreciated!

HD4000 Driver negatively affects ASIO audio performance.

$

I confirmed this with 4 different Mac Mini 2013 running windows 7 ultimate x64. That recent versions of Intel HD4000 Graphic Driver updates are having problems with the (Digital Audio Workstation)DAW software's ASIO performance. The symptom manifests whenever there is a GUI element on the screen that needs to be redrawn(ie. resizing/moving window, scrolling webpages), it causes the audio to click and pop. Rolling back to older versions of the graphic display driver resolves this problem immediately. Tested DAWs are most recent version of Reaper, multiple versions of Samplitude. The audio hardware is RME-audio UFX, FF400 and Babyface. They're the best in class and they did run smoothly and trouble free from the date of purchase till now. So they're not the source of this problem. Can you guys give me some tips on how to get around this without using older versions of the display driver?

ArmA 3: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED seems driver related

$

Hello,

Ever since ArmA 3 was released as an alpha back in March, it plagued me (and quite a few others) with these apparently random DirectX 11 crashes (either freezing or CTD):

"D3D Error - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED"

"Display Driver Stopped Responding and has recovered."

A few days ago I, acting on a hunch, installed an old driver (15.28.7.64.2867) from October(?) 2012 and was able to play the game without any crashes in area's/maps that were unplayable before.

Working my way up (I have some, but not all drivers released) I found that the drivers up to 9.17.10.2932 (December 2012) perform flawlessly, while 9.18.10.3071 (March 2013) and later tend to suffer from this issue.

So while installing the latest drivers is recommended as a starting point for every glitch, in this case it is not going to get you anywhere: it seems that every iteration has inherited a flaw that was introduced somewhere during that period (December 2012 - March 2013).

I hope this in some way helps you to tackle this issue, and allows me to have my graphics driver up to date in the near future...

These 'tests' were performed, ceteris paribus, on this machine:

Intel i7-3770K@3500|3900 (HD 4000@1150)

MSi Z77A-GD65 (UEFI: 10.11ß)

32GB Corsair Vengeance@1600

Windows 8.1_x64

All drivers were up to date.

Windows 8.1 Drivers for Intel HD Graphics 4000

Hello,

I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 today and I'm running into some issues. When I run GTA 4 (haven't tested any other games to be frank) - which ran fine before the update - it crashes after a while with a BSOD. The error message being:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys)

This query in Google has led me to the information that the HD Graphics driver is crashing. The next thing I did was install the latest HD Graphics drivers. This has not yet fixed the issue.

What I just noticed while writing this is that Hardware Info 64 does not recognize my Nvidia GPU. This could mean that GTA 4 is running on the HD Graphics GPU? So at this moment I'm reinstalling my Nvidia drivers.

So I reinstalled (clean install) the Nvidia drivers. I ran GTA4 which ran for a little while longer, but still throws a BSOD after a while.

In any case, this should ne be happening, right?

Intel Iris has 32 MB dedicated video memory... How to fix that?

Hello!

I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro retina with 8 GB of RAM and Iris graphics card.

I am having a problem in WIndows 8 64 bit (I'm using bootcamp 5). It seems as the Windows 8 doesn't work properly with the Iris graphics card. Under display adapter information it shows only 32 MB of dedicated video memory. And I only want windows on my mac because of occasional video games. No games run with 32 MB of video memory. And it seems that windows drivers are correct because it recognises the Iris 5100 graphics card...

I tried reinstalling bootcamp drivers and went to Intel's website for newer versions of Iris drivers but nothing helped. Is there a way to allocate more memory to the graphics card or some other solution?

I would really appreciate help on this.

Hi Everyone

i am running an Intel i7-4770S on a Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI board (Bios F5,latest) with Intel Graphics Driver 10.18.10.3412 in Windows 8 and have serious issues running Video in XBMC or Plex - both using DXVA. I have stuttering looking like a bottom to top wave on the screen.

DXVA errors have been brought up in some forums, hasn't this issue been fixed by now?

Intel HD Graphics 4000 and The Sims 2

Hi!

I have a problem with the game The Sims 2. When I had Windows 8, the game worked fine, but I updated to Windows 8.1 and I had to update the Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers too because the game didn't work anymore. And now there's a black rectangle under the sims feet:

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/6/7/8/3/5/1/3/MTS_00harris00-1390662-Screenshot.jpg

That black rectangle is supposed to be the shadow. If I set it to "medium", the rectangle goes away, but there's no shadow either.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've read some topics and there is a suggestion to move to earlier drivers (15.26.12) though i cannot install them as it is said that my PC does not meet the requirements. Is there any other solution to this problem ?

Here it is my DXDiag link on pastebin (text long to paste) also it is attached to this message : http://pastebin.com/Ny5CH4va

Need help, Intel hd 4600 and nvidia gtx 770m

Hello CS at intel, I'm posting here in hopes that I have better luck that I did with NVidia, after several days and multiple posts still no response, I'm having issues with vsync, Turning vsync on makes my games stutter severely even maintaining 60 fps, I have tried almost every intel hd driver aswell as NVidia drivers and have spent several days working on this issue, I'm playing on a laptop and only have an old square vga monitor to test other outputs and using it to plug into vga which is running directly from the gpu the stuttering issue disappears which leads me to believe that it is on you guys side, since the intel hd 4600 controls the frame output to the monitor.

Is this a known issue and if so is there any hope you guys can get in touch with NVidia to work something out, because from what I've seen this is a fairly common issue, I have found multiple threads with this same exact issue on other websides, if there is any other help you guys can offer please feel free, thanks for taking the time to read this.

Mini-Displayport to VGA converter problem with Win8.1 Pro and HD Graphics 4400

To connect my Dell Latitude E7440 to a beamer, I use a Mini-Displayport to VGA converter from Dell. It works for some beamers so the cable is probably not broken. However, some other beamers are not detected correctly (no image, nothing) and all display related control panels (Windows resolution control panel and Intel HD graphics control panel) freeze completely.

So, the laptop detects that there is something connected to it, but it does not manage to communicate with these beamers correctly. Many other laptops manage to connect to these beamers with which I have problems now, so the beamers are not the problem.

Configuration: Windows 8.1 Pro, Intel Core i7 with Intel HD Graphics 4400. Latest Windows Update, Dell updates and Intel drivers installed (and reinstalled, version verified with Intel driver update utility). So updating drivers not possible.

I tried setting the resolution of the built-in screen to 800x600 before connecting to the beamers, but to no avail.

Suggestions welcome, because the doubt that the beamer will work or not is really a deal breaker for an ultrabook and mobility... Thanks in advance.

Hey ho,
Two weeks ago i'v re installed my computer. Before one week i re-installed Battlefield 4 and i startet playing. I noticed a error message that told me that there is not enough memory is available. I'v never had this error before. After 2 weeks of testing and finding the problem i noticed that everytime i run a game at another resolution than my desktop resolution my virtual memory is linea filling up to 100%. After it reaches the 100% mark, the Windows Error message shows up and it wants me to close the game that i'm playing. If i run the game at the same resolution than the desktop resolution or in windowed mod this doesnt happen. If i switch back to the desktop, the virtuel memory is will be cleared again.

What i'v already tried:

  • Re-installed DirectX
  • Repaire Visual Studio 2013
  • Cleaned and re-installed Nvidia and Intel HD drivers
  • Used a old version of Nvidia drivers
  • Used a old version of Intel HD drivers
  • Re-installed Windows 8 Intel chipset drivers and sata
  • Different amounts of virtual memory
  • Moved the virtual memory from sdd to hdd
  • Checkdisc
  • Re-installed the games
  • Checked memory usage and programms
  • De-installed Avira AntiVir
  • Re-installed Windows 8.1

My system

  • Intel i7-3610QM
  • 8,00 GB - 1600MHz
  • 120 GB SSD
  • 1 TB HDD
  • Nvidia Geforce GT650M - 2 G
  • Intel HD 4000 - 256 MB
  • Asus N76VZ Notebook
  • Virtual memory on SSD 8 GB to 16 GB
  • Windows 8.1 64x

Intel G41 Graphics Driver Setup Fails to Install

I work for a school board and 30% of our computers are OEM computers with various Intel branded motherboards and the other 70% are Dell computers. We have a Windows 7 64-Bit image we image all computers with. The OEM computers have the following type of Intel board – DG41KR, DG41TX, DG41TY, DG33BU.

After we rolled out or image at the beginning of the school year we were being informed that our OEM computers were randomly rebooting and after investigating we noticed the video driver was using a Win7 embedded driver so we downloaded all the latest graphics drivers for each of the Intel motherboards and created a job to do a silent install to update the video driver. Unfortunately we were still getting reports that approx. 40% of the OEM computers were still experiencing this reboot problem. When we looked to see if the video driver was up-to-date we found they were still using the Win7 embedded driver. We tried logging onto some of these computers as the local administrator and ran the Intel graphics setup file again and during the install we get the following error message “An error occurred while registering one or more components. Setup will exit.”

I have tried to use the log files to see if I can identify what the error is to troubleshoot but the log files located in C:\Intel\Logs\IntelGFX.log don’t really provide much help. I have taken the logs from both a computer that the install was successful and one that failed and compared the two and here is where they differ.

I have checked both systems bios revisions and they are the same and I have also checked both video devices Hardware ID’s in the device manager and they are also the same.

Hoping someone can assist me with this or tell me how to turn on more extensive logging so I might have more details in the logs about what might be going on.

I have attached both log files from the working and failing systems.

After updating to Windows 8.1: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

Hello, I have a Dell XPS13 with the INTEL HD Graphics 4400 processor

Driver version 10.18.10.3304

OS: Win 8.1 Pro (6.3.9600)

with the Intel Core i7-4500U CPU 1.80GHz processor

8MB RAM

Open GL Ver 4.2

Open CL Ver 1.2

Right now, I can't go to the EDIT -> PREFERENCES -> Performance tab... whenever I try to go there, I get the driver error that says the driver stopped and was recovered... but photoshop CS6 still hangs and stops responding.

I have to kill it with task manager...

are there any updates or fixes I can get for this?
