Official Black-screen thread - We need your help!

Hello Graphics Communities!

For a very long time now we've been trying to track down, diagnose, and correct an issue that seems to be happening all across the board with Intel® Graphics.  Users, for various reasons - seem to have issues with OEM systems (and Intel® NUC's) losing their display for different events.

  • Installing new drivers
  • Rebooting
  • Computers idling, going into sleep or hibernation
  • Other random events

We have run into a stumbling block in fixing this issue, and that is that we are unable to reproduce the symptoms above.  We have ordered exact-matching systems, displays and cables - and matched our configurations to those of the users having problems, and we are completely unable to reproduce the problem.  The issue is complex, but in this particular case - it stems from the fact that two users with the same configuration are not guaranteed to have the problem, it varies from user to user, system to system, display to display.

What we at Intel® are asking now though is 2-fold.  If you are one of these users (or a business) experiencing a consistent black-screening issue as mentioned above, we would like to procure your COMPLETE system configuration.  This means, we want you to ship us (at our expense) - the System (desktop or laptop), display (TV, monitor) AND the cable (hdmi, dp, dvi, vga) used by your system when it starts to have a blackscreen failure.  If you are willing to do this, you should be aware that we will keep your system for an extended period, and will compensate you by replacing your setup.

NOW!  Even if you are not willing to send us your system, and would just like to inform us that you have a black-screen issue.  That is okay too. Even if you have already submitted this info in some of our other black-screen threads, feel free to submit it here too.  Please submit the following information into this thread so that we can continue to document all possible instances of it.  Just copy and paste the below list and put in relevant information (completely!).  *NOTE* If you have not already done so, please update your BIOS and Display Driver to the latest version available.  We cannot accept a report of a failing configuration that is not up to date.  Additionally, if you are running your display through a 3rd party device such as a projector or an AV/R (receiver), you need to show that the problem still occurs without the extra device connected (a direct connection from system to display is required).

Are you willing to send your system to us? (Yes/No)
Is your system a laptop or desktop?
If desktop, is it custom built, or manufactured?
If desktop, what is the make/model of your motherboard?
What is the make/model of your system? (COMPLETE model name required)
What is the model of your CPU?
What is the make/model of your failing display(s)?
If laptop, is your built-in display failing? (Yes/No)
What is your operating system?
Is it a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system?
What display driver version do you have installed?
What type of connection are you using? (HDMI, VGA, DP, DVI?)
What happens that results in the blackscreen failure?

Any/all information is valuable.

Thank you for your information & cooperation!

Feature Request - implement EDID override

$

0

Hello,

it would be nice if the Intel Graphics driver would support overriding EDID information like described in this document from Microsoft:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg487330

Why is this needed?

In a common HTPC (multimedia PC) setup with a PC, AVR (audio video receiver) and a television, the EDID information stored in the receiver & television that is passed to the PC determines the video and audio capabilities like: supported resolutions, supported audio formats etc ..

The problem is that very often the system only "sees" the EDID information of the television, and not that of the receiver, and so you don't get support for audio formats like DTS, DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD that are supported by the receiver ...

The latest Sandy bridge CPU and corresponding chipset support all these sound standards, but they often not useable cause of these EDID problems.

Actually it really does not matter what video card / integrated graphics you use, NVidia and AMD graphics have the same problem, but their drivers

allows people to override the EDID information like is described in the above linked document from Microsoft.

Please implement this stuff, shouldn't be that hard to do, for one of you senior driver programmers it's probably just a few hours of work ...

Thank you

Christian

Can't update graphics driver on DN2820FYKH

I am unable to update the graphics driver on my DN2820FYKH. BIOS version is FYBY10H.86A.0052.2015.0923.1845. Running Windows 8.1.

Windows reports current graphics driver is 10.18.10.4276. I installed the Intel driver update utility, and it claims to install version HD graphics driver 15.33.37.4242 with reboot required. However, after reboot the driver is unchanged.

In order to isolate the problem, I'm doing this on a brand new clean install of Windows 8.1. I also tried uninstalling the existing driver first, with no luck.

Any ideas?

8159769 [SCALING BUG] Windows 10 / Intel HD Graphics 4600 - Impossible to get rid of 'Black Borders' problem - Stuck at 'Constrain proportions'

=== Device/Software information ===

32 GB DDR3L-1600 G-Skill RipJaws,

Intel Core i7-4710MQ

Intel HD Graphics 4600

Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M 4GB GDDR5

128 GB Samsung SSD (Boot)

1 TB Samsung Evo 850 (Games)

1 TB Hitachi HDD (Data)

Driver Version: 15.40.4.64.4256

OS Version: Windows 10 Educational

=== Problem Description ===

No matter what settings you choose for your display in Intel HD Graphics Control Panel -> Display -> Basic -> Scaling,

When you launch a fullscreen application the setting will be ignored and it will revert back to 'constrain propostions' when enabling fullscreen, then when you alt-tab to desktop it will go back to your selected mode, then you alt tab to game and it will go back to proportions setting again, making it impossible to get rid of the black borders.

The setting only is applicable in Windows 10 Desktop, doesn't work for fullscreen apps.

It worked good in Windows 8.1, I just upgraded from 8.1 to 10.

In windows 8.1 I could game on any resolution without black borders - a nice, full, filled screen.

I think I have the same issue as the sir here: Inter HD Graphics Scaling Games after Windows 10 upgrade

Please fix this ASAP or suggest steps to fix.

Problem does not happen without drivers (Driverless) -> Games run in full screen / fill screen mode at any resolution (so this is not a Windows bug).

display driver stopped responding and has recovered error

I bought a new star wars special edition computer on the 5th of November and immediately had this error start popping up on the screen from the right just above the time area the first day I got it. It came with a free service of free lifetime tech support, so I started calling them. I called them like 6 times and they told me it could be several things, first it was a pop ups, it wasn't, then it was outdated drivers, it wasn't, then told me they couldn't fix it, that I had to call HP because that's who made the computer. So I called HP, they told me they could fix it and tried whatever, then said that it would fix itself IF I restored the computer to factory specs, so I did that, and it did NOT work. They told me they would send a tech out to repair it IF it did not, and then when they called the next day to check in on it they told me they didn't have the parts to send a tech for that specific part, so they lied to me. It's a brand new computer, yet they originally told me well you don't have an in home warranty ?? So I said so what would you have said if I DID have an in home warranty? Oh I'm sorry we don't have the part we can't send a tech? I don't believe you don't have the parts for that part but they told me they have the parts for everything else for it but that. So I reordered another computer from QVC, and prepared the other computer to send back. I JUST got the 2nd computer on the 25th of November, yestereday about noon. I've been working on that computer and adding things to it and updating it all day and getting it ready and then just less than 20 minutes ago the same damn message just appeared on THIS one. There is NO WAY that both of these computers have bad display units, there has to be something else simple that everyone else is missing that is causing this message to keep appearing.  I took a picture of the message at one point when it happened on the 1st computer, it comes up and will cause a black screen then I have to click on it or opposite click on my wireless mouse to get the black screen to clear before the black screen will go away. What is causing this????  Someone please help me??

How can I create a custom resolution on a laptop ?

$

Hello :-)

I'm new and I'm French (sorry if my English is not good, I will do my best). I would like to know how I can create a custom resolution.

My config :

CPU : Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40Ghz

GPU : NVidia GeForce GT 740M (+ Intel HD 4600 chipset with Optimus)

RAM : 4 Go

OS : Windows 7 Pro 64 bits

My PC is a Toshiba Satellite L50-A-1DG.

There aren't any options in the NVidia Control Panel for that. So I suppose that it should be in the Intel HD Control HD because the desktop is managed by the Intel chipset apparently.

But no options too. It's like on this picture (left NVidia ; right Intel HD) :

http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447456166-config-nvidia-intel-hd.png

I explain why I want to create a custom resolution. It's for some old games with 4:3 aspect ratio. With my native resolution (when I plug with my TV) I have a stretched image in 1920x1080 for these games, and I want to have a no streched image, so in 4:3 and a resolution of 1440x1080 (or 1920x1080 with black bars on the sides).

I tried on my other PC with an AMD card, and it was extremely easy to create.

I think with NVidia it shouldn't be very harder, but I'm on a laptop with this bad Optimus technologie and as I said, apparently the resolution is managed by the Intel HD chipset and not the NVidia graphic card... :-/ And so I don't know if i must search in NVidia Control Panel or Intel HD Control Panel or if I can do what I want.

So, if someone could help me please, it would be cool ! Thanks ;-)

I have been following the internet to check for a solution and I have found people talking about the previous driver which is Intel GMA HD. so when I try to install it it gives me the error "error occured while registering one or more components" I have checked the posts here but no one has the problem with dell. I have tried to remove the Intel HD graphics. set device auto-update to off, downloaded Intel update utility, tried from safe mode. all with no luck, any ideas?

thanks alot in advance and happy new year!

No Audio HDMI device from on-board Intel Graphics HD 530?

$

(Windows 10,)

Hi, I have NVIDIA GTX 970 as a dedicated graphics card, and Intel HD 530 on my motherboard. In BIOS I have enabled multi-monitor support so that my TV is connected to motherboard HDMI socket, NOT the graphics card (this is in order to get the BIOS screen on my PC monitor, NOT my TV).

Everything worked fine until a couple of days ago. Not sure what happenned, but under sound devices, I no longer see the HDMI audio from onboard graphics (Intel HD 530). The graphics adapter itself works fine, it is visible in Device manager, and when I switch TV on the HDMI input from PC, there is a "new hardware plugged in" Windows chime, and the TV gets the picture fine, but there is no way to get audio from the PC to TV any more. Up until few days ago, I just used to open "Sound" panel, and select the audio device from Intel graphics as a default device, and the sound would immediately go through the PC, but this is no longer there?

Device Manager and Sound Panel screenshot:

Screenshot.jpg

I tried:

1. Disable/Enable device

2. Installed old drivers

3. Installed latest drivers (20.19.15.4300)

4. Tried "Add legacy hardware" through device manager

5. Installed Intel Driver Update Utility, scanned with it, shows nothing

6. I looked through "Intel HD Graphics Control Panel", no mention of any audio codec / drivers

I downloaded drivers from here

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-

The infuriating thing is that from downloaded Intel drivers I can see the files that are audio drivers, they are

Intel\DisplayAudio\8.20\intcdaud.cat

Intel\DisplayAudio\8.20\IntcDAud.inf

Intel\DisplayAudio\8.20\IntcDAud.sys

Intel\DisplayAudio\8.20\version.ini

But there's no way for the system to actually SEE the device so that I can point it to these drivers?

Thanks for any tips

Triple monitor resolution limits - full resolution not working on 3rd monitor

Let me preface this by saying that I've already consulted the document at:

Graphics Drivers — Configuration 3-Displays FAQ

Here is my configuration.  I have a Lenovo T440 that runs a i5-4300U cpu with the Intel HD 4400 graphics. This is running connected to a docking station and the monitors are all feeding off of a single DisplayPort on the docking station.  I am running three monitors.

The first monitor is a Dell 3415W, native resolution 3440 x 1440.

The second monitor is a Dell 2515H, native resolution 2560x1440.

The third monitor is a Lenovo T2224P, native resolution 1920x1080.

The Lenovo dock only supports a single digital out (DVI or DP, but not both simultaneously).  I purchased the two Dell monitors specifically because they have DP pass through capabilities.

Here is how they are configured:

Dock --- DP ---> 3415W --- DP ---> 2515H --- DP ---> T2224P

The two Dell monitors have no problem running at full resolution.  The Lenovo however does not.  If I try to set it to 1920x1080, the monitor goes blank and displays nothing.  If however, I set it to 1680 x 1050, it works correctly.

I have tried updating video drivers to the latest from Lenovo and to the latest from Intel.  The Intel drivers say that the drivers don't need to be updated.

Now, looping back to the opening statement, the FAQ states that the maximum resolution for each display is 3200x2000 @ 60Hz.  That's a total of 19,200,000 pixels.  The native resolution that I'd like to run at is only 10,713,600 pixels.  The resolution that works correctly is 10,404,000 pixels, so not that much different.

So, the question is - will the Intel HD 4400 chipset support running all 3 monitors at native resolution? Running the T2224P at a lower resolution is blurry and not terribly usable but that's the only option that I seem to be able to get working at the moment.  What do I have to do to get this functioning or is it a lost cause such that I should investigate a USB video adapter or some external solution?  The Lenovo documentation specifically states that the display adapter can support 3 monitors but it does not specify resolutions.  As an addendum, I'd like to keep all of the monitor connections digital as moving one to an analog VGA cable makes the picture and text fuzzy and the colors washed out.

Thanks in advance for reading all of this.

Intel Graphics Control Panel does not display content properly

Hello,

I've been using Windows 10 for a while and everything was pretty OK (including subject in issue)!

Now when I open Graphics Control Panel, the first screen correctly displays the content (1st image), but when I enter any of the options, like 3D, content is barely displayed (second image).

I've tried cleaning up my PC, softwares, registry, general cleanup and malware scans, updates, etc, even reinstalling the graphics drivers, running the subject in admin mode and trying to open it in my TV screen. Nothing fixes that.

My laptop is DELL Inspiron I14-3442-A10;

Graphics adapter is Intel HD Graphics 4400;

Driver is 10.18.15.4274;

Observations:

Even after updating Windows 8.1 to 10 it still used to work normally;

I've tried to uninstall most of my softwares, for the case it was a conflict;

Please, I beg you not to ask me to do a system recover to any previous point.

Thanks in advance!

Dear Community,

I've been redirected here from Intel support, the case ID is 8001269420. They said "a graphics agent can pull up all your information and continue helping you with your issue." I'd be really grateful if such an agent would turn up and help, as I'm trying to solve this problem since about 2 months now. I can reproduce all the information regarding the issue here, but would prefer not to do so f it's not needed.

Intel HD Driver issue August to October 2015 drivers in Cinebench r11.5 and r15

$

I assembled my new PC and testing all my components and see if they are working smooth as silk *A must thing to do

Here are my benchmarking/stress testing tools:

Intel Burntest

Cinebench r11.5 and r15

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility

Aida64 Extreme

My PC:

Intel Core i5 4690k running on stock 3.5ghz

Intel HD4600

Gigabyte z97mx Gaming 5 F5 Bios

G.skill 2x4gb DDR3 1600mhz CL9

Seasonic m12ii 620watts

2tb Seagate Barracuda

Windows 7 SP1 x64

Note that all my drivers are downloaded from Gigabyte Site

After i installed my drivers and checking my components these benchmarking/stress testing tools are good (1)Intelburntest, (2)AIDA64, (3)XTU

no bsods, no errors found. So i think my pc is in excellent working condition. When i ran my last software Cinebench r11.5 and r15. It started acting weird. I got low scores in CPU benchmark a 334CB. In r11.5 i got 4.20 (these score is consistent) So i thought my CPU is defective. So i tried again formatting and try not to install drivers. I ran again cinebench and i got my expected score. R11.5 = 6.25 and r15 = 566. I'm really annoyed what happened but now i'm suspecting that it's a software issue. Tried install Chipset i got my expected score. Then installed Intel HD Driver then dang! My score again is low Then i uninstall the Intel HD, and got my expected/right score. Then installed my drivers (except intel HD) i'm still getting the expected score. Then i tried downgrading my Intel HD (October 2015 to August 2015 driver) but still the same low score :(( Then i uninstalled again the August 2015 driver and tried my luck using July 2015 driver (the one im using right now) and voila! My cinebench score is back to my expected score.

Also take note: My gpu score in Cinebench r11.5 and r15 is 33.47 (my expected score) so these Intel HD drivers below was not affecting my GPU/Open GL score. Only affects my CPU score

So my suspect drivers are:

Intel HD 15.36.26.4294 (10/10/2015)

Intel HD 15.36.24.64.4264 (8/19/2015)

The one i'm using right now: Intel GPU still 33.40~

Intel HD 15.36.23.64.4251 (7/27/2015)

Does anyone of you experienced this issue?
